Many would have heard of JOHARI Window which helps a lot in SELF EVALUATION and also SELF DEVELOPMENT.
There are four window panes in this ; UNKNOWN TO SELF AND UNKNOWN TO OTHERS, UNKNOWN TO SELF AND KNOWN TO OTHERS, KNOWN TO OTHERS AND KNOWN TO OTHERS, UNKNOWN TO OTHERS AND KNOWN TO SELF.
I am narrating two true incidents related to UNKNOWN TO OTHERS AND UNKNOWN TO SELF. This pane or window is also called as POTENTIAL which is hidden inside NOT KNOWN TO US AND ALSO UNKNOWN TO OTHERS till it is discovered.
During one of my workshops while discussing JOHARI Window one employee narrated this incident .
He said ; When he was in school studying in Class XI, there was an annual Inter House Athletic meet. Although he played Basket ball but had never taken part in any atheletic event. So he was watching the events from outside. Suddenly two of his class fellows came and asked him to participate in 800m race as the actual participant had fallen sick and there was no one available to run from their HOUSE.
The rule was, if there is no participant from the house, they would get negative points. He refused to run as there were many girls also watching, and that would hit his Prestige if he comes last which he was sure he would. So, he flatly refused the offer. But those guys did not relent and kept pressurising him.
Finally it was decided that he would run at good speed in the beginning so that he leads the race and then come out of the race after a lap or so limping and pretending to be hurt. This way their House would not lose any points and he would also save his face infront of the girls.
So, he was given the spikes to run and finally he ran and he continued to run and came First in the First Heats. After winning the race he went crazy as he could not believe that he has come first. Thereafter, he went on to win the finals, represented School , represented his district and went on to win the State Championship in 800m.
He had the potential but it was neither known to him nor to others.
Another true incident is of Honorary Capt Dung Dung who played for Indian Hockey team as Full Back in late 70s. I once had a chance meeting with him and asked him about he got into Hockey.
He said ; WAISE TO HUMAARE GAON ME HOCKEY , FOOTBALL BAHUT PRACHLIT HAI PARANTU MAI KABHI UNIT MEY HOCKEY NAHIN KHELA. EK DIN HUMAARE UNIT MEY INTER COMPANY HOCKEY COMPETITION KA MATCH THA AUR HUMAARE TEAM KA EK PLAYER KO CHOT LAG GAYI THI. TO COMPANY COMMANDER SAHAB KO SENIOR SUBEDAR SAHAB NEY BOLA KI DUNG DUNG KO UTAAR DETE HAIN, MEY DAUD KEY COMPANY BARRACK BHAG GAYA, LEKIN LOG MUJHE PAKD KE LEY LAAYE AUR COMPANY COMMANDER SAHAB KEY SAAMNEY KHADA KAR DIYA, SAHAB BOLEY DUNG DUNG TUM KHELEGA AUR JOSH SEY KHELEGA. BAS SAHAB HUM KHELEY, PHIR HUMAARA SELECTION UNIT TEAM MEY HO GAYA, USKE BAAD DIVISION TEAM MEY HO GAYA, USKE BAAD COMMAND TEAM MEY PHIR ARMY TEAM MEY USKE EK SAAL BAD INDIA TEAM MEY HO GAYA.
Again, the same thing ; POTENTIAL was neither known to SELF NOR KNOWN TO OTHERS.
These two gentlemen got the opportunity to REALISE their Potential But how would we try and find.
Its therefore important that WE KEEP TRYING, KEEP EXPLORING NEW AVENUES AND KEEP MAKING USE OF EVERY OPPORTUNITY THAT COMES BY AND KEEP PREPARING OURSELVES.
Something like this Happened with Modiji also.
